Well after months of talking and navel gazing, the adventure begins…..
The old Savage Surf is about to go through a major facelift. Situated 40 feet from the beach on the north coast of Cornwall, and in the heart of the village of Portreath, our new bike hire - beach café is about to emerge!
Brigid and I have just had three weeks plotting, planning, designing, redesigning and DOing!
I have eventually donned my overalls and wielded my hammer and moved into the shop. Stripping out shelving and carpets and clearing the inherited rubbish, I was mightily relieved to get a call from Andrew Q, who has recently moved into the village, asking if I wanted some help. So the two of us prepped the walls and floors ready for Jason and his crew to move in and start the heavy lifting on Monday. Under Brigid’s expert management, they will transform the shop over the next couple of weeks. And there’s plenty to be getting on with behind the scenes!
Ellie has taken control of our communications strategy and is busy designing the website and social media plan. She is working hard with Lee at On2Media to pull it all together.
I am focused on planning, ordering, shipping and building our fleet of cool new bikes. I am really excited about our range of both hard tail trail and electric bikes and expect them to arrive early in the New Year. More on that in future blogs.
Alongside that, our on-line booking and reservation system needs to be trialled and implemented, our fresh food menu needs to be designed and we need to order our exciting new range of beach goods!
As I sit at my computer and look out at Gull and Horse Rocks, and the glorious beach, I realise how lucky we were to have discovered Portreath, and we are so happy and excited to be here. There’s a lot of hard work ahead, but everyone in the village has been welcoming and supportive and it really feels like the adventure is underway…..
